Sloping and levelling layers of roofs are presently verified possibilities of SIRCONTEC lightweight concrete utilization.
In combination with thermal insulation they have proved its advantages in roof structures and today they successfully replace clinker concrete, perlite concrete or different backfills used in the past. Their main advantages are as follows:

  - Favourable price of gradient and thermal insulation layers
  - High speed of application
  - Low additional load of the load bearing structure
  - Good building and physical characteristics of the roof deck
  - Easy vertical accessibility
  - Bound and stable structure

The method of making gradient and thermal insulation layers mentioned above is preferably used in roof reconstructions because the existing layers of the roof being reconstructed usually need not be removed.
PsB 50 polystyrene concrete is usually used for making gradient layers of flat roofs, mostly with slopes up to 3 %
Although lightweight concrete used in roofs has substantial thermal insulating properties, we recommend using panel polystyrene with the minimum density of 30 kg/m3 to achieve required thermal resistance. It is usually placed under PsB 50 layer.
Minimum thickness of PsB 50 above the panel polystyrene should never be less than 100 mm
Mechanical fixing of a cover coating by placing an anchor into PsB 50 is not recommended. If this method of fixing must be used, it is recommended to apply a cement screed with the required thickness on the PsB 50 layer or fix the mechanical anchor into the bearing slab of the roof.
The best location of the thermal insulating layer is under the SIRCONTEC lightweight concrete layer in “standard” order of layers (not “inverted” roof). In this case the panel polystyrene is located in a temperature stable environment without temperature fluctuations and it is protected against ozone and UV radiation.
Thickness of SIRCONTEC lightweight concrete layer should not be less than 100 mm in this case.
Very economical method of inclined roof restoration (fixing leakages) with the slope up to 15° and the roofing consisting of trapezoidal metal sheets or corrugated eternit is the use of an existing roofing as a permanent formwork for PsB 60 layer. This will level the sub base and a cover coating can be applied.
When using PsB 60 in this way, it is recommended to stiffen the PsB 60 layer withKARI cage mechanically fixed to the sub base.
PsB 60 thickness and the type of KARI cage is designed by static engineer together with construction physicist.

The whole roof structure - both reconstructed and newly built - should always be designed by civil engineers authorised for fields of construction physics and statics.
